In Deaccessioning the Studio, I arranged a collection of recently displaced objects that developed specifically within the architecture of my studio. Playing on the concepts of art fairs and high-end retail, the works were arranged as a retail display in a white cube gallery space. The installation consisted of sculptural platforms and a collection of handmade and refurbished house-ware and furniture pieces. The materials and pieces were salvaged, redesigned, and re-presented as polished and re-contextualized commodities. An auction was held at the exhibition's opening and as the objects were sold and disappeared, only the formal relationships of the display remained. Turning the installation into a reductive geometric work shifts the concept from one that denotes practicality, profitability and interaction to one that relies on visual and spacial relationships.
